What is SEO?

SEO, also known as search engine optimization, is the optimization of one’s website or webpage in order to fit the current Google algorithm. Because this algorithm is always changing such as with the Panda and Penguin updates SEO firms or small businesses managing their own SEO efforts must stay as up to date as possible in order to ensure their websites stay at the top of search results.

In order to do this there are a few constants one must look at no matter the most recent updates.

On Page SEO

On page SEO is the optimization of a number of factors found throughout the website. Just a few examples of on page factors include title tag optimization, meta descriptions and tags, keyword density and more.

Off Page Optimization

After one has finished optimizing each page for on page factors he or she should then attempt to create very popular, highly relevant backlinks to the website. For example, if you are a plumber operating in Indianapolis, Indiana then you should try to gain backlinks from websites focusing on Indiana commerce, plumbing resources, or both.

Time

If your website is new then the final factor of SEO is time. Search engines respect website that have age more than sites that have been freshly created. If you are not experiencing immediate results then you might just need a little more time. Remember, a watched pot never boils.
